The Precinct

Kick Building has been at the centre of building out Banksia Drive as a creative precinct within the Byron Bay Arts and Industry Estate. The estate has become one of Byron Bay’s most talked-about destinations: a place locals and visitors seek out specifically because of the quality of what’s there. It started with Kick HQ at 17 Banksia Drive

The Base

It started with Kick HQ at 17 Banksia Drive: a dilapidated shed transformed into a functioning shared workspace in three weeks using salvaged materials. 18 Banksia Drive followed, a 3,758m² commercial building designed by Richards and Spence for developer Norfolk. Kick was engaged mid-project to complete the base build across all shopfronts, facades, bathrooms, carpentry, ceilings and partitions. 16 Banksia Drive came next, a tenant-led renovation of existing industrial warehouses. Each address is now occupied by some of the most recognised creative businesses in the region. The precinct is a direct result of what gets built when the standard doesn’t slip.

The Fit-Outs

Kick then delivered the fitouts for the businesses that moved into 18 Banksia Drive. The Jardan furniture showroom with a 7m raked skylight and recycled blackbutt flooring. Comma, the modern bathhouse with a marble Hammam, custom plunge pools and a Finnish sauna. Rowie the Label brand headquarters. HGA Architects‘ studio built entirely from recycled materials. Live Nation’s team workspace and so many more.

The Outcome

Banksia Drive is now a genuine destination within the Byron Bay Arts and Industry Estate. That is a result of the quality of the base build and the fitouts that followed. The precinct works because the construction was done to a standard worth building on.

Looking Ahead

Kick Building’s work at Banksia Drive is ongoing. The practice continues to support renovations and improvements across the estate, keeping the precinct moving forward as the businesses within it grow and evolve. The goal is straightforward: to keep building an area where Byron Bay’s creative community can do its best work.
